Chapter 22
The Saunakadi rishis asked Sutra to ask him to “pay homage to Sage Vartyachva’s penance and tell the story of how Samudraraja got impure due to his curse”.
Rishis! Vardyachvara, a Brahmarishi, performed a penance which no one could do, from a sink in the ocean. His Dabhokni went to the god’s heart and burnt all the devas. The five-toothed ocean was boiling like fire on all four sides
They also complained to Indra that they were intolerable.
Hearing that, Indra called some demons called Malimlusars and ordered, “O Demons! Disguise yourself as Sembavar and reach Samudramathi with many nets and drag the Rishi, who is doing penance there, along with a group of fish, to the shore.” Those rakshasas, who were very clever and had the power to take shape as they thought, heard that word and went to the sea and threw the net on all four sides but could not see that Rishi at least one place.
At that time Samudiraraja secretly came to them and said, “O Rakshasas! There is a pond called Nagam in Plakshadweepam, which is far away from here. In that pond the Rishi is doing penance. I am suffering a lot because of his tapogni. You should somehow go and drag the Rishi to the shore and break the penance. He said. The rakshasas went to Plakshadweep and cast webs there
Couldn’t catch Rishi. Samudrarajan was caught in the net when he raised the big waves and brought the Rishi to the surface. Immediately the Rakshasas dragged the Rishi to the shore
Immediately, the Rishi saw the Nishta and saw that Samutharajan had given him a promise to do penance and became very angry and cursed Varuna, the king of Samuthara. ‘Theerthas become punya theerthas only because of the bathing of Paramabhagavathas. I was worshiping Sakshad Jagadpati in your tirtha, and you dragged me to the shore with demons and fish! So hey Varuna! He cursed that you will always be impure.
Immediately Varuna, king of the seas, offered many pure gems as an offering and bowed to the Maharishi and said ‘O Munichreshta! Their tabokni stung me and the five who turned to me. I have committed a crime by not being able to bear the heat. I pray that my penalty be remitted; Brimmarishi was happy and said ‘Shothrang me with jewels
A remedy for relief Not far from here, on the banks of the river Kaveri, in the forest called Amravanam, there is that linga of Suttaratneshvara, which was blessed by the gods. That amravana is called Dakshina Kashi by Brahma seeds. If you become Kshetra and worship that lingam with suttaratnang, you will be hammered by his grace only in parvakalam, in other seasons the ocean will be impure in all other places except Ramsedu. By his prasadam you will also attain the name of Ratnagaram,’ said Anugraham. Ch
Then Samutharajan became Amravanam, which is shining with holy trees and always pleasing to the eyes, bathed in the river Gayatri and worshiped Parameswaran with pure gems and did penance for a long time.
Then Lord appeared and said ‘O Samutharajan! I was happy to see the penance. As my devotee your Maharishi said you will be hammered only in Parvakalam. At other times you have hammer only in Sethu. My devotee
The spoken word will never be false. Those who take a bath in the ocean during the Grahana time and other Parva times and Mahodaya and do tarpanam will get rid of all sins and reach my world. And you will become Sarvaratnagaran. Those who bathe in Tirtha, thinking of you and me, “Suttaratnesa, your Sarvaratnagara”, will be freed from the millions of deadly sins committed in innumerable past lives and join the world of gods. There is no doubt about it. Those who listen to this story, along with the sons and daughters of Buddha, will have a long life and abundant wealth and will enjoy all the paths in this world and will finally reach my world.’
O Rishis! In this way all the gems such as pearls and corals appeared in the sea because of the offering of God. Not before it. Within a short period of time, Vartyachavaram became God’s Prasadam and looked at the whole world as Shiva, taking Sarugu, Tirtha and Air as his sustenance and performed many punyaranyas Wrapping all the weeds around him, he reached Amravana and passed away in the holy Suttaratneshvara Linga.
