Sage Sage! We heard the story of Surya. Why did Samjnadevi, wife of Surya, come to Amravanam and worship? When the rishis ask, ‘It should be explained’, Sudar tells the story of Samjnadevi.
Surya was born to Kachyapa Maharishi, the son of Dil Marisi Maharishi by Aditi, daughter of Dakshaprajapati. Samjna, the daughter of Dvashta, was his wife. Three children were born to Surya from Samjna Devi. The eldest of them is said to be Vaivasvata Manu, who was the leader of Suryavamsa kings and who wrote the Dharma Shastra called Manu Smriti to keep the people of the world in order. At last the Tejas of the sun fell down. With that Dvashta created Vishnu’s Chakra, Shiva’s Sula and Skander’s Shakti Weapon. Then the Tejas of the Sun were attributed to Samjna Devi. Both Surya and Samjna were happy and worshiped by the devas, worshiped Brahmananda Purishvara Suttaratnesvara and went to his own world.
