Sutra said to the Rishis, “Sage Suta, who knows all the scriptures! Tell us the story of Kakalan in detail. You have told us the holy story so far. Hearing that makes me want to hear more stories.”

A son was born. The father knew that his son was going to repent of committing a great sin due to his wisdom and gave him the name Marudanthan.
After some time, Lilavati, who was very amorous, left Badivradaya Dharma and became Vyapisari along with other 3. Purushas as her lust was not restrained by her husband, who was thin and old due to penance. His own people did not listen. Knowing that his wife was involved in bad behavior due to original sin, Kaholar threw her out of the house. Lilavati happily accompanied many young men who were in love with her, carrying the ornaments given by them and going to many towns and seducing the men with her beauty and extorting money.
Her son Marudandan, well-studied in the Vedas and as knowledgeable as Brihaspati, came to this Uttampuram as Yatruchaya when he was on a pilgrimage. The king of that place was Sudhanva
Seeing Marudanthan’s intellectual prowess, he happily gave him the post of minister.
When Marudanthan was happy and comfortable with his position as a minister, one day a distant Vidan came to the minister and said, ‘O minister! There is a new dasi in this town and she is very beautiful. You should go/come to her house’ he said jokingly. On hearing this, the minister reached Lilavati’s house, overcome by the sins of his previous birth. Listen, Saunakadi Rishis! The senses are very powerful and no one can conquer them. It will make even the wise men fall in love.
Marudanthan saw Lilavati and was charmed by her beauty, not knowing that she was his mother and enjoying pleasure with her and when they were saying salam, they came to know each other as mother and child. When Marudandan came to know the matter, he became very sad and suddenly fell down on the bed and fainted.

Go and tell us about our sins
Pray for atonement.
They are scriptures according to our sins
He imposes any special atonement
Let’s practice it diligently.
So we are freed from sin and become saints
Yes. Even in times of hardship
They will not lose courage. hurry up’
Hearing his mother’s words, Marudandan took courage and went to the banks of the river Godavari to see the Mahanas. There are many others for the sunset at that place. Manothamas had come. Marutandana bowed down to Abramanas, who knew all the Smritis, and with folded hands, told them of the Matrugamana dosha that he had committed, and begged them to make amends for it as a shy man.
Everyone there thought carefully and looked at the sage Marutandana and said, “Any man who knowingly commits mahar sin out of lust, there is no other atonement for him than falling into the fire, falling from the mountain, and these. If he had sensed Mata or her wheels through ignorance, he would have automatically cut his universe and taken it in his hand. You have to go to the south-west direction, O Brahmin, because you did not know your mother.
Sin is the work of love. Tamas is black darkness. So tie a bell made of black barbed iron around your neck and go from village to village regularly, take the Bhiksh and worship and reveal your sin to everyone. You will go on doing Kshetradanam till the beads on your neck turn into gems. When the iron beads on the neck turn into jewels, then know that vampa is gone. Consecrate a Shiva Lingam in your name wherever beads turn into gems. Brahmins who are scribes in that kshetra should be given house etc. and entertained. If you do this, your sins will be removed and you will become a sage like before.”
Hearing this, Marudandan bowed to them and tied iron beads around his neck and set out to perform Kshetra dance along with his mother.
