Chapter 13
After hearing this amazing story, the residents of Naimisaranya again looked at Sage Suta and said ‘Hey Suta! What did Indra do next? How he worshiped Lord in that Amra Vana. How did he get rid of that curse? ‘These things should be said in detail,’ says Sudar.
“Listen, Rishis! Thus cursed Indra is very ashamed
Confused, he went to heaven and saw the angels. ‘ Hey Angels! A sage named Gautama did penance in the earthly world with the intention of conquering the heavenly world. I went there to dissolve his penance. It has been so fruitful. I didn’t do this for myself. It was for the benefit of all the gods that I performed his penance. Are there no women in this place to please me? Why should I go there when there are so many beautiful Apsara women in the heavenly world? I went to his Tapas just to do Vignam. His penance was ruined because he got angry and cursed me. Therefore all of you will come together to remedy the deformity in my body by means of a plan.’
On hearing this, Kailamana devas, rishis and scouts along with them went to Lord Brihuspati and bowed to him and said ‘O Guru! Lord Brihaspati! Devarajananavan entered the adharma path and cheated Gautama Rishi and his wife Ahaliya was Doshat.
Dal’s whole body is deformed he is angry with us. Therefore, they prayed that they should impose some kind of penance to remove his curse.
On hearing this, Prihu Haspati closed his eyes and meditated, knowing all that had happened with wisdom and looking at the gods, he told them.
“O gods! Indra has become lustful due to the curse given by Kamathenu. Those who become Kamaparavasas do not know Dharma. But I will tell you a trick. If Indra, who is corrupted by Kama, worships the lustful God, his evil will be removed. If Kamari wants to be blessed soon, Indra should do penance in the holy place I am telling you ask
In the southern part where Agastya dwells in the world, the mother from the Sahyamalai, which flourishes only because of Vayu” and thus the mother with the name ‘Marutvrudai’, removes the unbearable sins, because of the Maharishikanas.”
There is a holy river called Kaveri which is worshiped and has Maha Kshetras and Samudrakamiya. On the north bank of the Kaveri river, a little to the east of Jambukeshwara, there is a Mahakshetra called Amravana, surrounded by many herds of animals. In that Kshetra there is a lingam which is eternally independent. It is called Suddha Ratnechwarar. There is a tirtha called Brahma tirtha in that forest. It is also called Matsya Theertha.
In the said Amravana Kshetra, the great ascetic Mrigandu Rishi performed penance with great discipline. Indra provoked Kaman to spoil his tapas. Cupid struck the motionless samadhi with his pushpa panams. After the penance was over, Mrigandurishi woke up and saw the act of wisdom done by Jnana Drishti and looked at Kaman with great anger, “Oh Kama! You will be born as a wretch because you violated my penance. Because Indra sent you, he lost his sattva quality and attained the quality of tamo. After cursing him, the body of a vanai, seduced by lust, will become deformed and become a monster
When Indra worships this Lord Amravaneshvara, who has the blood of Devaraj, then his body will get rid of the deformity and become like before. This Kaman was also born as a vedan – whenever he reaches this forest, his curse will be absolved and he started penance. So angels! As Indra has come to this state due to the curse of Mrigandu, as he has blessed, Indra reaches that Kshetra and worships the immortal linga and becomes holy and attains Swayarupa.
Hearing this, the gods said, ‘What did Cupid do when he became Vedan? I want to say this’ says Brihaspati. Kaman became Vedajanmat and killed many tigers and animals at will in every forest and became this Kshetra due to the curse of Rishi Bhakshitu and came to Brahma Tirthakarai. When many fishes were frolicking in that tirtha, when the holy tirtha fell on Cupid, immediately the curse was removed and the nature of suffering was removed and Cupid attained his own form
Henceforth it got the name Matsya Theertha.
O Gods, if Indra worships that Vyagam Vyaktam in that Kshetra daily with a thousand lotus flowers for a year, then the thousand yonidwaras in his body will shine like a thousand netras’.
Hearing this, the Devas bowed down to Brihaspati Bhagavan with devotion and took leave of him to the bank of the pool where Devendra was hiding in Meru Parvatat. They came and joined.
