Preface:
A Sanskrit book ‘Sri Apravana Kshetra Mahatmiyam’ which extolls the glory of Tirumanturai near Tiruchirappalli has recently been printed and published. The preface of the book reads, ‘There is a Tamil translation of this Mahatmiyam which will soon be published by the grace of Sri Amravanechwar? It was said that Thanks to Sri Palambika Sametha Sri Amravanechwarar, the work of printing it is completed and ‘Sri Amravana Kshetra Mahatmyam’ is published in Tamil.

Brahmanandapuram, Amravanam, Akha Pahari, Mrigandichwarapuram, built by Brahma on the north bank of river Kaveri, with the names of Sutta Ratnechvarar, Mrigandechvarar Amravanechvarar, is the self-made Mahalingamurthy of Brahma Indra , Kaholar Pillai Marudanthan, Vedamitran, Many such people have worshiped and received the grace of Sri Amravaneshvara in this Purana.
Maharishi Mrigandhu performed penance in this temple and had a child and reached the age of Markandeyara, the curse that Brahma had uttered a lie here. It is beautifully told in this Purana that when Indra did penance and got rid of the curse caused by Gautama by worshiping Shri Amravaneshvara. Kaholar Pillai Marutandhan’s Matrugamana dosha was cured at this place. The ashes of Vedamitra’s father were interred in this Kshetra. Suryan, Samnadevi, Chandran, Samudraraja etc. worshiped Sri Amravanechvara and received his grace. After killing the deer, Shiva and Parvati rakshit the deer cubs in this place. In this place, Cholaraja Cheveda Ketu built a temple for Sri Amravaneshvara and consecrated Sri Palambigadevi and performed Mahabhishekam for the Brahmins. Go Boo made gold donations, organized Nitya Pooja to Puruyara and stayed for some time, then joined Tannur and got a virtuous son by the grace of Sri Amravaneshwar.

They are said to be nourishing. This Purana also tells about the things that are useful for the devotees to attain good fortune. It shows the wisdom and the need for devotion to God and the qualities of ‘Sad’. It also has the most beautiful commentary.
In the sixteenth chapter of this Purana, it is said that Marudandan established a lingam in the east of Thiru Manthurai, built a temple and established a Brahmin village after his dosha was over. This village is one mile east of Thirumandurai. Its name is Agam Hara (from ‘N (‘)) and Maruvi is now called ‘Angarai’. The Lord of the temple built by Marudandan in this village is still called “Marudandeshwarar” by his name.
I pray to Sri Palambhikasamedha Sri Amravanechvara that the devotees read this Purana and receive Bhagavat Anukraha.
This Tamil translation was done by Sri Thiruvenkadam Aiyangar, who was the priest of Perumal temple in Nagar village near Tirumanturai. This was done before 1935 and thought of releasing it during the Tirumantura temple kumbabhishekam. Temple Managers, late Sri V. Krishnaswamy Iyer, Sri A. Sundaram Iyer, they also prepared an appeal to the public on this subject. But the book was not published. This ‘translation’ was in the form of written notebooks. These notes were in the residence of Sri Sundaramaiyar, deceased Nagar, the above mentioned manager. I have them for a few years. Before he got it from his wife Dane. Since then I have been praying for Sri Amravanechwar’s grace to print and publish it, and now by his grace my desire has been fulfilled.
The late Sri Thiruvenkatam Iyengar had a good knowledge of Sanskrit and Tamil, and it can be inferred from the translation that he must have had Purana training and strong devotion to God. His translation is in beautiful Tamil, which corresponds to the meaning of the Purana in Sanskrit, and is conducive to inculcating virtues and devotion to God in the reader
We are all eternally indebted to the late Sri Thiruvenkatam Iyengar and the aforementioned Thirumantura Temple Managers who have given us the translation and made us all aware of the glory of Sri Amravana Kshetra.
It also includes Srimugam with Paramanukrahat of Sri Jagadguru Sri Kanchi Kamakodi Peedam Sri Shankaracharya Swami for Amravana Kshetra Mahatmya and its Tamil translation. I bow to Sri Jagadguru in both Saranaravindas.
